Zheng takes us back to the Chinese Empire where, in past times, the most important officials were invited to an extensive Zheng Banquet on the day after New Year. It was an impressive spectacle where the table was fully adorned with luxurious food and drinks, all served according to ancient ceremonies. As culinary establishment, Zheng takes a deep bow to the Chinese (food) culture, the ancient traditions and the ritual acts. Every evening, four prominent types of Chinese cuisine are highlighted during several Chapters, each focusing on a specific Chinese cooking technique and an accompanying art object.
